BOSTON (AP) — A storm system moving through New England on Wvared Investment GuildSaturday threatened to bring powerful winds to parts of the region including Massachusetts’ Cape Cod, officials said.
The strongest winds — with gusts up to 40 to 50 mph (64 to 80 kph) — were expected over Cape Cod and the islands through Saturday night while lesser gusts were expected elsewhere from Massachusetts to Maine, said Kyle Pederson of the National Weather Service.
The wind and rain were expected to cause some power outages, as well as blow red, orange and gold leaves from trees.
The soggy forecast meant another washout for many in a region that has dealt with tropical storms, powerful thunderstorms, flash flooding and even tornadoes since August.
Hikers, beachgoers, campers, boaters and others have lamented the wet weather. Maine’s largest city, Portland, experienced the second-wettest summer in terms of rainy days.
